General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern

Ultrasonography showing single gestational sac without embryonic pole.
It is suggests there is no development of the embryo in the gestational sac.
It is called blighted ovum.
It will cause miscarriage and so there is occurrence of spotting.
Exact cause of the blighted ovum is not known.
There may be chromosomal defect and defect in egg growth factor and sperm cell, abnormal cell division.
Other cause of miscarriage should be rule out in the next pregnancy by investigations like chromosomal analysis, blood sugar, anti phospholipid antibody, thyroid hormone and reproductive hormone analysis.
Sorry to say but There is no effective treatment for blighted ovum
Hope this may help you
