What Causes Vaginal Swelling When Diagnosed With Vaginitis?

Hi there, I was diagnosed with Vaginitinis over 3 weeks ago, a gynecologist gave me one week of antibiotics but it has not cleared. After sexual intercourse, the left side of my vagina swells up. I feel a lump inside but the gynecologist said it should go down after the medication. I am very concerned. There is no pain, only slightly but this cannot happen after every time I have sex with my partner.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.

A consition called Bartholin cyst can also arise associated with vaginitis. Bartholin cyst arises due to obstruction of gland due to fluid clogging. It may get bigger during or after a sexual intercourse. It is usually painless. It usually resolves within 3-5 days. You can opt for surgical drainage if it gets infected. Also marsupialization of the cyst covering can also be done so that it does not recur.
I would recommend you to wait until it gets painful.

Kindly revert back to us for any further queries you may have.
Thank you.
