What Causes Vascular Incident Diminishing Eyesight In Alzheimer S Patient?

Eye doctor said my husband (Alzheimer s patient) has probably has a vascular incident which has affected his diminished eye sight in one eye. Today my husband said he was reading, but had to stop because of a painful sensation over the affected eye and a headache. Could this have been another vascular incident (stroke)? He is feeling fine now, several hours later. I was not at home at the time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since your husband experienced pain and headache on reading and he has diminished vision in one of the eyes, he is suggested to get clinically examined by an eye specialist. He may need a new set of lens. He will be recommended to go through a few investigations and imaging tests to rule out any developing Glaucoma, cataract or other eye pathology.

He will be treated accordingly. If diabetic or hypertensive, he should control blood glucose and BP at all cost. He should avoid anxiety and stress, as it triggers tension headache and migraine. For relieve he can take Acetaminophen, one SOS when required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
