Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had an infection in my brain-and got a vertigo attack that lasted 2 months- is that normal?Prior to that when I closed my eyes I was spinning for around 6 months into the attack. And a month before I had a hard time with balance, when standing up and moving. The infection was in my lungs as well for a couple of months prior.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
This sounds like you had an infection in the lungs. This may have seeded in the brain and caused a space occupying lesion- likely in cerebellum. The vertigo may be due to the abscess affecting the cerebellum.
I would suggest getting an MRI of the brain, followed by a lumbar puncture and CSF analysis. The antibiotics would be needed along with other supportive measures, like physiotherapy.
I therefore would suggest uploading the reports so that we can help you further.
Best wishes,
Dr Mittal
