What Causes Vertigo Symptoms After Taking Vertin?

I had fallen on ground on 09-01-2015 and head struck on wall. On next morning I had 4-5 vomiting. Doctor prescribed Vertin 16 three times a day. I developed vertigo at the age of about 25 and was cured. I do not remember which medicine I took. But I also took Homeo medicines. If I miss even a single dose for 4-5 hours I began getting vertigo symptoms, which goes by next day afternoon. My MRI, Carotid doppler and Doppler of both legs are normal except age related changes. I cannot walk with ease with which I used to before fall. If I walk for about 15 minutes there is a strange sensation in my brain I feel that this medicine had a dullness effect on my mind and there is heaviness on head. How to control side effects of this medicine Doctors say that it will have to be taken for a long period say 4 years. I am 80 now. My weight is about 60 kilos. Please suggest some way to get rid this disease at the earliest so that for rest of short life I may live a normal life Bhargava- India

Hi

1. As you are an octogenarian, thus it is essential to have a consultation with a cardiologist [for cardiovascular status], a hematologist [ for blood picture], and a Neurologist [for any neurological sign] to arrive at a conclusion or provisional diagnosis.
2. In old age, cervical spondylitis is the commonest cause of giddiness (ask for X-ray cervical spine, ENT & Ophthalmic checkup. (Additionally, go for thyroid profile), till then general advice will be:
- Avoid movements of the head, bed rest
- Avoid caffeine
- Check whether any drug (if any) is causing giddiness
- Use cervical collar
- Injection Neurobion IM [alternate days]
- Capsule B complex twice daily for 15 days

PS. Check with Vitamin B12 level since deficiency in this age does cause neurological problems.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
