What Causes Visual Hallucinations When Diagnosed With Multiple Sclerosis?

I was diagnosed with MS about 4 years ago and my medication is doing well at halting the legions. I have not had a new legion appear in 2 years. Today I was sat on the couch and I was seeing shapes in the carpet move in my perifferal vision. Then I did not recconize where I was or what I was doing. Can these be the effects of a new legion? I was not aware they could alter my perception.

Addiction Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

MS causes inflammation and scar anywhere there is nerve material. One of the more common places is within the eye. This is actually visible. This sometimes affects vision. There can be lesions anywhere involving sight so it could be in the brain, nerves or the retina.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman, Addiction Medicine Specialist
