What Causes Visualizing Flash Of Black Light In The Left Eye?
Hello! I am a 58 year old female. A few hours ago I noticed a black flash in my left eye. I thought it was an eye lash in my eye. I took out my contacts and I am still experiencing a flash of light or what feels like something in my eye. There does not seem to be anything physically in my eye. Could this be neurological? No head ache...
The vitreous gel naturally becomes more liquid and collapses away from the retina. This is called posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). It is very common and more likely to happen as you get older.
As the vitreous pulls away from your retina you may see this as a flash of light in one or both eyes, like small sparkles, lightning or fireworks. Very occasionally, flashes can be a sign of retinal detachment, which should be treated as soon as possible.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
