Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
This morning my son threw up after he drank some water from an open water bottle on the coffee table. Since then he has not been able to keep anything down and is still throwing up even though there is nothing in his stomach. He won t eat or drink and just wants to sleep. Do you think it could just be a 24hour bug?? Thanks!
Continuous vomiting after drinking water likely suggests that the water wasn’t clean or it can be due to food poisoning because of the consumption of food last night most probably.
As he is vomiting a lot, he is feeling weak because of dehydration. I would suggest you go to the ER as he needs treatment for vomiting. As he is not able to retain anything taken orally, IV fluids can help.
Once the vomiting is stopped the doctor in ER will guide you on further management by taking history and doing physical examination.
After knowing the underlying cause for this, if needed your son will be adviced to take further medicines depending on the cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
