What Causes Vomiting And Diarrhea While On Azithromycin For Chlamydia?
Hello,I was recently told I had chlamydia, and was prescribed a one time dose of 2 500mg azithromycin (Zithromax) and a 7 day dose of 100 mg doxycycline 2 times daily. Well, I am also on iron meds, etc. And waited till I went to bed to take both doses for my chlamydia. I waited 10 minutes before laying down, ate 2-3 hours before the dose, and took my dose with a full glass of water, like told to do. I ended up waking up multiple times to a painful gummbling and gurgling stomach and would vomit 5-6 times before returning to bed, and repeating this several times throughout the night, it only ended once I had a few cases of diarrhea, and the puking, but not the nausea came to an end. Is this normal? And how long will it take to see results of treatment?

Hi,
You should stop iron medicine for time being as treating chlamydia is of more importance at this moment. If it were due to azithromycin, it's effectively over so you can start Doxycycline which is used in many types of diarrhea even.
Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen along with anti spasmodic like drotavarine can be helpful for symptomatic relief. Oral rehydration salts and good water intake must be ensured.
