Hello,
I can understand your concern. you would like this situation to stop. As a dentist, you are describing a person with a strong gag reflex. Try to rinse your mouth with mouthwash before brushing as this can have a numbing effect. We use this for patients that have difficultly taking X-rays. Change the Ste of your toothbrush to a smaller, narrow head. Brush gently. this just something easy for you to try at home.
You should discuss this with your doctor during a physical to make sure there is nothing unusual in your throat. There certainly could be systemic problems and a physical is highly recommended.
Please let me know if this helps. try to keep well hydrated as well. A dry throat, reflux disease, allergies and other conditions can contribute. Look for patterns when things are worse and report this to your doctor.
