What Causes Vomiting While Suffering From An External Oblique Muscle Strain?
My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed yesterday with an external oblique muscle strain. She hasn t been able to eat, has vomited On multiple occasions and has run a fever of 101 all day. She has been taking three 200 milligrams of ibuprofen every 6-7 hours. She is drinking water but couldn t keep gadorade or much else down. Before we could take her last dose her fever was up to 103.7. An hour later and she is down to 102. Is this normal for a muscle strain? Jennifer Irwin YYYY@YYYY
No, the muscle strain seems to be unrelated to the fever and upset stomach. It looks like a GI infection, mostly a virus. Recommended treatment is plenty of fluids. ORS is recommended instead of water as it helps in better water absorption and maintaining electrolyte balance. An antibiotic may be prescribed if bacterial infection is suspected. Also an antiemetic like domeperidone can be prescribed for the vomiting. If she is not able to keep oral fluids and drugs, intravenous route can be used to deliver the drugs.
Hope this answers your question, thank you.
