Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My year old grandson started 8 days ago with what we thought to be a stomach/intestinal virus with vomiting and diareah. He is still having these symptoms. Until today he has played and acted like he is feeling okay but today is sluggish and pale in color. My daughter has had him to the doctor. They are growing cultures with his stool. We are afraid that he is going to dehydrate. What symptoms can we look for in dehydration. Can you possibly give me other causes of this bug lasting so long?
Dehydration can occur with vomiting and diarrhea. Dehydration needs to be corrected with fluids and appropriate food. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for assessment of dehydration and replacement of fluids. In the meanwhile the culture report will determine any infectious agent and most appropriate antimicrobial effective against the micro-organism.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
