Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Walking Abnormalities After A Knee Surgery?
when I get up in the morning I walk funny. I stagger a bit and legs fell like jelly , it goes away in about 5 minutes. It also happened tonight when I got up to go to bathroom. I have an artificial knee and a knee needing surgery very soon Also a bad back. 38 years ago I had a laminectomy in my thoracic spine and now a small calcified growth has grown around it and is pressing on my spinal cord. Could that explain the funny walking as I am a back sleeper and that puts presser on that growth that transfers to the spinal cord.. Also have very weak legs.
Staggering can be due to imbalance of ligaments around the knee joint. The knee has to be operated is likely to be causing problem in walking. The operated knee is likely to be stable. I suggest you to consult your orthopedicain for clinical assessment of the knee joint for exercises which can make the knee stable before getting operated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
