What Causes Water Retention After Potassium Chloride And Sodium Chloride IV Infusion?

I was recently given 2 12 hour sodium and potassium IV drips due to a potassium level of 2.3 and a low sodium level. I spent two nights in hospital. After returning home I woke the next day with a severe headache which lasted all day and 5 days later my thighs are still very swollen which I presume is water retention as I gained 4 kg literally overnight. Is this over infusion and how long for the fluid retention to go as my legs feel so heavy.

Hello,

The swelling in feet is due to the vigorous hydration you received at hospital. It will slowly disappear over a couple of days. Nothing to worry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
