What Causes Watery And Foamy Diarrhoea?

Hi..I ve been having watery diarrhea for the past 5 days. Started out as watery, about 5-6 times a day and now it seems slightly more foamy. I ve tried taking the BRAT diet, immodium, yogurt, and probiotics but nothing seems to help the problem consistently. What do you think is going on? Should I make an appointment with my PCP?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I share your concern
Consistent diarrhoea for 5 days warrants detailed evaluation to find out the causative organism for it
This could be due to infection like bacterial viral or protozoal

In my opinion you should take an appointment with your doctor for examination, checking for signs of dehydration and stool test for ova, cyst or protozoa

You may require a course of antibiotics under supervision of your doctor
Meanwhile maintain good hydration
Have plenty of fluids including ORS and fruit juices as much tolerated to counter dehydration and electrolyte imbalances
You can have lemon water mixed with salt and sugar

Hope this helps you
wish you good health and speedy recovery.
