Last august in 2014, 6 of us visited the dominican republic. All 6 of us got sick within 2 days of our arival. All sick with SEVERE watery diarreah. Upon arrival back home 3 needed to see a doctor.the other 3 recovered on there own BUT TOOK A WHILE. I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and Was admitted for 5 days. I haden t eaten in days while on vacay in the DR. With absolutely NO appetite, But did drink alot because of severe thirst. I also had a lot of cramping in my legs. I noticed that my stool had small white flecks in it too. I was tested for a few things when admitted to hospital and all came back negative but not really sure what i was tested for. My potassium was VERY low and the doctor says it could have been fatal. I know you cannot diagnose me but it still haunts me not knowing what i had. I guess my question is, could it have been cholera? Can a person survive a week without treatment? Or is cholera a much more serious illness and i may be overreacting? There were no more symptoms other then what i have stated. I will forever be questioning what made me so severly sick. I cannot stress how bad the diarreah was. I give God the credit for my health today!
