What Causes Weakness And Dizziness After Excessive Water Intake?

I have started a diet which requires my drinking 64 oz of water a day. Now for 2 weeks I have been waking up every 2 hours to use the bathroom, I am weak and shaky, and now even my mind is ditzy. I can t concentrate on anything, I forget what I m doing. I m a senior citizen, but my mind has been clear up until now. What can be wrong?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would like to suggest:
1. Blood test for sodium, potassium, calcium
2. Hemoglobin
3. Kidney Function Test

Although the amount of water you drink is not very much, it may dilute the electrolytes like sodium, potassium, calcium.

I also recommend you to eat a good nutritious diet and fruit juice.

Eat more vegetables and white meat.

Take rest until you feel fit.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
