What Causes Weakness And Lack Of Sensation In Leg Post Femoral Stress Fracture?

I recently suffered a femoral stress fracture. I was on crutches for almost 4 months. During that time I started having a cold do it and lower leg. I tested negative for blood clots. I had an material test that did not show circulation issues. Even after being off of the crutches for 3 months my foot and lower leg are still cold and numb while sitting. It will turn bright purple while showering. Also my leg just feels weak and almost a lack of sensation like it is permanently asleep. Wondering if I could have an entrapped artery or nerve?

Hello,

Your symptoms may be indicative of femoral neuropathy post stress fracture. It can also be due to femoral nerve dysfunction, occurs when you feel weak and can’t move or feel part of your leg because of damaged nerves. This can result from an injury, prolonged pressure on the nerve, or damage from disease. This conditions is treatable but may take time.

Medications and physical therapy may be necessary if symptoms don’t improve. Diabetes may cause femoral neuropathy. Nerve damage that affects your legs, feet, toes, hands, and arms is known as peripheral neuropathy. Get clinically examined and evaluated by a Neurosurgeon. Get NCV tests and other required tests and investigations done so that the treatment can be started at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
