Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is approaching 82 yrs. of age. Has always lead an active life. He is experiencing a lot of weakness in his lower extremities... some pain in his right upper thigh area... but his major complaint is the weakness. Has had angioplasty and wears a pacemaker, which is checked regularly for efficiency.
From you question it sound like you are concerned about your husband who is having pain and weakness in his legs. In your query you also mention he has had angioplasty and a pacemaker. From this I am concerned that he may have other arteries that are blocked. If he is getting pain when walking he could have peripheral vascular disease of the arteries of the legs. In my practice I usually order tests to measure the artery flow in the legs.
I would also recommend that he start if not already taking aspirin daily, do moderate exercise as long as it does not hurt and eat a diet low in fat and cholesterol.
Hope this answers your question. If you have any further questions please contact us again
