Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Weakness In Legs Along With Bruising And Pain?
I ve noticed in the past year that sometimes when I m standing, my legs feel weak or tired and I want to sit. While laying down, both legs ache, even hurt some --usually with some movement of my legs while laying down, it relieves or stops the ache and pain. Occasionally, the ache/pain continues for a while. When I am bending over (ex. to shave legs), I notice my feet become bluish-black. I mentioned this to my internist who didn t seem concerned about it. I m a 53 yr old female, secretary--alot of sitting/typing. I m almost 20 lbs more than what the doctor says is normal for my height (5 4 ); weight approx. 158 lbs. I m concerned that there may be some blood clot or something is causing poor circulation in my legs. I do not walk as much as I used to and I haven t been exercising over the past year.
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. Causes of your difficulties may be neuropathy or ischemic issues. Neuropathic are seen in diabetics or injury of spine nerves. If this is not your case then these symptoms are indicating circulatory problems in legs which are common in this age and there may be present atherosclerosis that obstructs blood vessels and causes pain and blisters to form. You should do Doppler ultrasound of the leg or CT angiography to rule out such obstructive changes and then it can be treated properly by medications or by surgical and radiological procedures. ALso, you should have Aspirine 100mg and have elastic stockings applied, and should avoid cold environment and long walks. In most cases it can be managed with medications but sometimes surgery may be required in severe cases. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
