What Causes Weakness In Legs Upon Sitting For A While?

My husband s legs are weak after sitting awhile or if he walks a distance. On several occasions they have given out on him and he fell. He is 78, overweight with AFib. His legs were tested for circulation problems but nothing amiss was found. He is under doctors care for other other issues, but nothing definite has been found for the leg problems.

Hello,

The following are few probable conditions wherein weakness of legs is present:
1) Lumbar disc prolapse
2) Lumbar spondylitis
3) Stroke
4) Guillain - Barre syndrome
5) Multiple sclerosis
6) Parkinson's disease
7) Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
8) Peripheral neuropathy
9) Spinal tumors
10) Radiculopathy and toxins
11) Sciatica or sciatic nerve compression both sides
12) Myasthenia gravis

You can discuss the above causes with your neuro-physician. He can rule out the causes by detailed clinical examination and few necessary tests.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
