What Causes Weakness In The Arms And Legs While Having Graves Disease?

I began to have weakness in my arms and legs, spasms in my gastrocs and hamstrings, numbness and tinglinging in my arms and legs which began 3 days after an MMR shot for a new job. It has not gotten worse in the 27 days since the shot, but it has not gone away. I have had a nerve conduction study which was normal. I have Grave s disease and MGUS. My blood work for both issues are all within normal limits. I am under a huge amount of stress. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, in my opinion it could be Thyrotoxic Myopathy. Thyroid hormone regulates the basal metabolism of many tissues including nervous tissue. excessive thyroid hormone levels in Grave's disease leads to break down of muscle tissue which in turn leads to weakness of the arms and legs.
No need to worry if diagnosed early it can be treated effectively. As your nerve conduction studies are normal I suggest you to go for one important investigation Electromyogram. Based on this your treatment can be planned accordingly.
