Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Weakness In The Calves While Suffering With A Stressed Achilles Tendon?
Today I had a saline solution shot in my ankle for a stressed/torn Achilles. Now that the walking boot is removed, I am noticing a weekness at the base of my calf muscle. Last Friday, I took a bigger step without shoes on than I realized and had shooting pain along the back of lower leg/ankle. Now I don t know whether the Achilles is more torn, or I am just experiencing a weekness from wearing the boot for several weeks? Should I wait 6 weeks for it to heal more before starting up physical therapy again?
If there is Achilles tendon injury you need to rest the limb for some time to heal rather than stressing it even more for injury.
Do not cause trivial trauma again which might lead you to tear and has to be corrected only with surgery. If you leave it for some time, then healing process will start soon. Immobilization for the only 2 weeks is all necessary.
If you have pain, then you can take some painkillers like Diclofenac, Tramadol, Paracetamol, etcetera for temporary relief.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
