Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What causes weakness in my hands? I just turned 50 and feel like I used to be very strong (even a year or two ago) but now I feel like I m weak and I can t really even make a good fist anymore. Some days are worse than others so it is not consistent. My knuckles hurt often and I am guessing I have arthritis but am not really sure. Haven t been to dr for it as it is so slowly changing. My left leg/hip is also bothering me for several months now. I thought I pulled a muscle or hurt a ligament or something right where it is attached going up from the groin. I was walking quickly across my daughter s campus when it happened in September but has just not gotten better. Hurts most when I have to lift my leg up, like when I am sitting and want to lift my leg to reposition myself. And hurts when I have to lift it up like to step up onto something. Otherwise walking etc. only hurts a little although I can t go as fast as I used to. It also usually feels like when I was pregnant and a baby would be pushing off of my pelvic bone. My sister has MS. This is not connected is it? Am I just getting old and this is just stuff I should expect?
At an age of 50 as such in a normally active person, one should not predict many joint issues as narrated.
I predict some sort of immune-mediated issue as arthritis or late-onset multiple sclerosis and the same should be addressed to your consultant for proper workup and management ahead.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
