What Causes Weakness In The Neck Along With Dizziness?

I am writing for my 29 year old daughter. She has had migraines since she was a Freshman in high school, and would temporarily lose her vision. We ve had her to specialists, and they said it was due to hormones, and that s her body s way of telling she s going to get a headache. She has 2 children, and during her pregnancies, the headaches got better. Her youngest is 2 now (and a handful), and she is also a 5th grade teacher that has 30 students in her class this year. About a month ago, she started having symptoms like she s never had before. She describes it as a weakness in her neck, and it feels like her head is too heavy for her to hold up. It causes dizziness and more than anything, worry. Her neurologist sent her in for an MRI two weeks ago & it came back normal. She got feeling better for about 1 week, and it hit her again yesterday. We are at our wits end & don t know where to send her. Have you ever heard of these symptoms?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi,

Could the dizziness be related to the ear or a cervical spine problem? In Benign positional paroxysmal vertigo, some positions trigger dizziness. You should see an ent specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Harshita, Ophthalmologist
