What Causes Weakness In The Upper Leg After Withdrawing From Ativan?

I have been takling Restoril or temazepam after getting off Ativan I am experiencing unusually weak upper legs ( thighs) I am a 71 year old woman I wonder if I should start tapering off but I am very nervous about sleeping -- trouble with that for much of my life But I don t want to keep taking a Benzo!!! dilemma!! I haven t tried all the natural options either.

Hello,

Yes, Benzodiazepines may be difficult to quit after prolonged use. Generally, the method is to switch to a long acting one that is Diazepam. However, weakness in the thighs are not always because of it. Sometimes muscle problems or even calcium and vitamin D deficiency may also cause weakness here. So just talk to your doctor to see if anything else may be causing you weakness otherwise we can stop benzo as stated above.
