What Causes Weeping Edema On The Legs?

Yes, my father is in an assisted living facility, has congestive heart failure with extreme edema of legs and feet . He has quite a lot of leakage from the legs and feet. He is on Lasix and the nurse practitioner says nothing else can be done. They have started bandaging both legs as of yesterday. Do you think he should see a Cardiologist to determine if he is getting right meds for his condition.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Congestive heart failure can lead to lower limb swelling. Yes, you must be certain that the cardiac condition is being managed properly. The leg and feet swelling would be less in the mornings. At this time he can wear grade-2 compression stockings from the toes to mid thigh on both lower limbs. These may be worn through out the daytime and removed at night before sleeping. Thus the swelling in the lower limbs can be managed. It is also good to keep the skin of the legs soft by applying a skin softner, like Vaseline on the feet and legs morning and evening.
