Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I suffered a mild to moderate tbi in 2008, in 2012 I started to take medications for it 400mg Provigil, 60mg of adderall, and 40 mg of Prozac, 3 month ago I reduced the Prozac to 20 mg and started gaining weight rapidly over 20lbs since then. why?
prozac is fluoxetine. long term intake causes weight gain. It is not because of decrease in the dose of medication. It has to be tapered rather than suddenly stopping. weight gain is because of an increase in the appetite caused by the medication. So taking the medicine along with good exercise would be better rather than sudden withdrawal.
