What Causes Weight Gain After A Colostomy?

I had surgery for diverticulitis in December 2015. My entire small colon was removed. I had a colostomy bag after surgery for almost 4 months until I had the reversal surgery. I lost at least 20 pounds but over the last few months I have gained it all back and more. I am so bloated and miserable. I m having a hard time even getting into my pants. Any suggestions?

Hi,

The weight gain is positive. You should try to register what you eat and then decrease your caloric intake. You may be bloated from eating a carbohydrate-rich diet, so try to decrease carb intake and increase fibre intake.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
