Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes, after having my complete thyroid out a year ago and going through menopause at the same time a year later my legs ache all the time. Especially my knee joints and the bottom of my feet I have put on 25 pounds which I know could impact knee and joint pIn but I am still active and young I have my sugar and cholesterol levels checked when ever I have blood work and they are fine. Is this a possible result of the thyroid removal or weight gain?
Of course thyroid removal can make you to increase weight. Thyroid hormones affect our basal metabolism so the dicrease of the hormones will put you in increased weight.
Taking levothyroxine orally is advisable to substitute them. Also menopause can make woman to put on weight. Have a healthy diet and increase exercising.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka
