What Causes Weight Gain And Leg Ache After Dextrose IV Administration?
Hi. I was administered a dextrose IV in my house not knowing at the time what was being put in my body. It was a mobile Iv service and It was unregulated. He administered a liter and a half of fluids. It’s been almost 2 week since then and my body has been freaking out. My muscles have broken down. I have gained fat all over my body. It hurts to walk. I am chronically lethargic. Did what he gave me in an hour cause this? Please help!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, it rarely cause such side effects but low potassium levels can.be triggered by that and may lead to lethargy so serum electrolytes should be done. An Echocardiogram should also be done alongside renal functions as any issues with these can cause excessive water accumulation in body and lead to swelling and lethargy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
