What Causes Weight Gain And Swollen Feet While On Protonix?
I recently was hospitalized for an upper GI bleed. I have a small ulcer and was prescribed Protonix. I noticed a few days ago that my fee; were swollen. They have continued to stay swollen and when I weighed myself today I found I have gained about 20 pounds. Is this a side effect of this drug?
Based on the history you have shared, you should get renal and liver functions done. Echocardiogram may be needed to see for ejection fraction. Thyroid profile may also be needed. Not seems to be due to drug but due to fluid retention. Limit salt intake and fluid intake should be according to urine output. Urinalysis for proteinuria should be done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
