What Causes Weight Gain And Water Retention In The Legs While On Elleste Duet?

I ve been taking ellest duet conti since I was 40 (early menopause) and I m 59 now. I ve recently started putting on quite a lot of weight and suffer with water retention, especially in my legs - I love being on these HRT pills and have never had problems with them. I m also active, gym a couple of times a week and a strong and keen swimmer (1 mile + a week). I don t eat a lot - so I m a bit confused as to why the weight, and wondered if it could be my HRT. Though why it would just start to happen now, I don t know!

Weight gain and fluid retention is a possible side effect of Elleste Duet. This drug contains estrogen and one of the ways the estrogen affects a woman's body is fluid retention.
Also, the fat mass may increase causing fat deposits under the skin and real weight gain (not only water retention). Sometimes, patients may take this drug for some time and later develop these side effects.

I would recommend you to talk to your doctor and rule out other causes of water retention such as the heart, liver, kidney function. Also, it may be good to check your thyroid (TSH blood check) as low thyroid may cause weight gain.
If all the tests and examinations come out normal then Elleste Duet is the likely cause of your weight gain and water retention
