Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Weight Gain Post Antibiotic Treatment?
I have pretty major abdomen bloating after a 3 day hospital stay. I hardly ate anything, I urinated quite often, passed gas quite often, and had LOTS of runny bowel movements (due to antibiotics) the last day and a half. I also got out of bed and moved around and walked several times a day. But now I literally weigh 8 pounds more than I did 4 days ago. Where is this fluid being retained if not in my intestinal tract? Why? And how do I best clear up the problem?
I think the weight gain might be fluid retention during your staying in hospital, not a real increase in body fat.
To me should treat: - primary disease for which you've been prescribed antibiotic - keep well hydrated - diarrhea with probiotics, metronidazole and antifungal therapy
Then, gradually, the problems will get solved by themselves. But, needs a bit more time.
Keep regular follow ups with your caring doctor.
Wish fast recovery. Dr.Albana Sejdini
