What Causes Weight Gain While Being On Lisinopril For High BP?
I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about 9 months ago. started a script for lisinopril and took it regularly with good results. I started a fast the beginning of the year and lost a significant amount of weight in the process, but did not take the meds since I was on a water only fast and was afraid to take the meds during the fast. My blood pressure dropped naturally. Well, I ve gained some weight back and just took by bp....several times 197/105. I just took a lisinopril. I am having no symptoms. Question.... How fast will the lisinopril work?
hi thank you for asking your concern and welcome to hcm. lisinopril acts quite fast it starts within one hour and its action last till 24 hour hence it is given once a day. well lisinopril does not cause weight gain there may be some other cause of weight gain. you can consult your doctor to see is there any cause of weight gain or not, you need to rule out edema also, you can do by your own press the foot with your thumb just at bony area of ankle for 15 sec if pitting is there then it might be edema. as you are having no symptoms there are almost no chance of having hypertensive emergency and bp is below 220 so no hepertensive urgency in such situation bp should not be lower down fast. fast lowering will affect the circulation to vital organs it can damage it. in such situations bp should be lowered gradually because body is adapted to that bp and a sudden change will harm it. if you feel any doubt please ask us regards dr. abhijit
