What Causes Weight Gain While Having Rheumatoid Arthritis And Fibromyalgia?

I have gained 9 lbs in 2 weeks, (edema) what could it be? I was on a water pill called triamterine and I still had swelling, so after at least a yr, I started on spirolactone. My lower bp numer has been over 110. so bp is running 140/110. I was started on metepherolol 25. I have NEVER gained ten lbs in 2 weeks, but it is true. I have RA and fibromyalgia, and the extra weight is NOT helping me.

Thanks for posting your query.

You mentioned you are having RA . But are you on any medicines for RA ? Because one of the medicine used to treat RA is Steroids . Steroids are know to cause rapid weight gain and water accumulation. If you are on Steroids ask your doctor to give an alternative .

If you are not on steroids then we need to evaluate the cause for your Edema in spite of being on water pill . Evaluation is done looking into probable causes like Kidney or liver or Heart Problem .

You need to get these tests for that : Serum Albumin , Serum Creatinine, 2D ECHO.

Kindly revert back with details asked and test reports .
