Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve had the implanon for 2 years and can not lose weight. I ve tried everything but nothing works. Actually I ve gained weight. I e never had a pro let with my weight before and I m not doing anything different. Is it possible that this is happening because of the implanon?
Implanon implant contains etonogestrel, a female natural sex hormone called progesterone that is used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses for up to 3 years. The medication is contained in a plastic rod which is inserted into the skin of a woman's arm. But like other medications, this contraceptive method has some side effects of its own.
According to some clinical studies, about 12%-21% of Implanon users were found to have had clinically significant weight gain. So, Implanon may cause weight gain in some women. Again, weight loss is possible after its removal. If you have any further query regarding weight gain during using Implanon implant, then you can ask your doctor for details.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,
Implanon is a hormone built contraceptive. It is Progesterone based. Weight can be attributed to the hormone but it can be controlled by regular dieting and exercises.
