What Causes Weight Gain While Taking Lamictal And Prozac?
My daughter is taking lamictal 25mg prozac 10mg and zyprexa she has gained about 50pounds in jusrt 3 months and i was wondering what could be done to curb this weioght gain as that will send her into an even deeper depression. I know this from experience because i have experienced the same thing. I know that prozac causes weight losas and zyprexa weight gain. please help asap
Usually, Lamictal has no effect on weight. Also, Prozac, usually cause weight loss, at least not weight gain. However, Zyprexa is very well known to cause the weight gain. Therefore, in my opinion, if you are having a visible weight gain, you may have to stop taking Zyprexa.
There are certain anti-depressive drugs like Sertraline, Venlafaxine or bupropion etc., which are known to cause least or no weight gain, may be replaced in place of Zyprexa. However, all these changes in treatment protocol are to be done strictly under guidance of your doctor to and this change in the treatment regime should be always in a gradual tapering manner to avoid the sudden withdrawal symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
