Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Wheezing And Shortness Of Breath After Taking Lopressor And Losartan?
I take generic Lopressor for my heart (aortic valve replacement, Feb. 2015) along with Losartan. I ve been experiencing increased wheezing and shortness of breath particularly at night. I assume it was allergies since I ve had a persistent post-nasal drip for most of my adult life. I recently discovered that this could be related to the Lopressor. Can I skip it tonight? I usually take it befor bed and then 12 hours later.
Lopressor is a beta blocker which also causes bronchospasm and precipitates wheezing in 1% cases. So if you are already allergic then this side effect can be evident and frequent on taking lopressor, but I wouldn't advice you to discontinue it, as it may lead to serious heart conditions like MI.
You may visit your medical specialists/cardiologist for decreasing its dose gradually or replacing the medicine with other pressure lowering agent. options are plenty but do consult physician for alteration.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Arihant Pandey
