What Causes White Deposits On Gums Post Wisdom Tooth Removal?

I had all four wisdon teeth, as well as four teeth in the front, removed 4 days ago. Now, there is no pain but more of an urge to bite down? I'd say it's similar to an itch but not at the same time. Also, there was a bunch of white, dead looking stuff over a portion of my gums and close to where my lower wisdom teeth were removed. It reminded me of the dead skin one would get after biting their cheek, so I wiped it away with wet cotton swabs. It came off very easily. I'd like to know what it was though. I am not able to see exactly where my bottom wisdom teeth were removed because of the swelling. It appears as though my cheek may be stitched around my teeth, but I assumed swelling was the reason. I cannot fully clamp my teeth together because of the place on my cheek I was describing. It's as though I bite on it whenever I try? I don't want to poke too much back there as it's only been 4 days since the surgery.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain the white stuff that you noticed over the gums near your extraction site does not seems to be anything harmful but can be some food debris that have accumulated in that area or it can be dead tissue that remained stuck to the gums..
Due to swelling there must be reduced clearing of food debris as well reduced movement of tongue leading to deposition of debris including thick Plaque like layer over gums..
The itchy feeling and feeling of biting down needed not to be worried for as at times during the initial process of healing there can be such a feeling which will ease gradually..

As swelling is commonly seen after surgical extraction of teeth so that needs not to be worried for as the swollen cheek is due to inflammation caused commonly after surgical procedures and will subside gradually, just take care not to bite over it as it will further induce swelling and pain...

You should follow the instructions given to you by the treating Surgeon and do warm saline gargles..
For swelling apply ice packs over the cheek..
In a period of over 8 to10 days the swelling will resolve considerably..

Hope this information helps..
