What Causes White Discharge While On Clindamycin And Flagyl Gel?
I have been taking clindamycin 300mg twice daily and flagyl gel once daily and today i noticed a thick white discharge. I thought my symptoms would clear up since this is the fifth day taking these medications. Is this a side effect or should i call my doctor
Clindamycin can sometimes end up causing a vaginal yeast infection. This happens to about 10% of women who take Clindamycin. Itching and a thick, white discharge are typical signs of a yeast infection and it can also be treated with medication.
Flagyl contains metronidazole which is used to treat certain types of bacterial infections in the vagina. This medication may help to decrease itching, discharge and some other symptoms. Flagyl is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Changes in vaginal discharge can occur if the normal balance of healthy bacteria in your vagina is upset. Many things can cause this imbalance such as antibiotics like Flagyl.
A common side effect from metronidazole gel like Flagyl gel is a thick, white vaginal discharge with or without an odor which usually goes away soon after completing a full course of treatment. Metronidazole may also cause your urine to become dark which goes away when you stop using this medication. You should not have sexual intercourse while you are being treated with metronidazole like Flagyl vaginal gel.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
