Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes White Patches With Burning Sensation At Corners Of Mouth?
I have some whitish marks on both corners and near the corners of my mouth. You will notice the right side has one mark on the lip and one small square shaped mark next to the lip border at the corner. The left side has also white mark on lip. Both sides feel annoying and like the top and bottom lip corners are rubbing against each other and touching when I never felt this before. Occassionally there is a burning feeling at the edge of these marks. Can you please explain what these marks actually are? Thank you
As per your query the symptoms are pointing towards Angular Chelitis and it can be due to a few common causes like bacterial infection, fungal infection, nutritional deficiency of iron and vitamin B12, dehydration, dental work causing injury to corners of mouth etc..
Nothing to worry, consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and in case of bacterial infection antimicrobial ointments and oral antibiotics can help.. In case of fungal infection which seems more probable in your case antifungal ointment should be applied along with maintaining dryness and preventing saliva accumulation in that area.. Take multivitamin supplement daily.. Apply thick coat of petroleum jelly over the corners of mouth as well as lips to keep them soft and soothing.. Drink plenty of water..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
