Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a white scaly rash in my groin area since a week or two. It itches quite a bit. I suspected Jock Itch, hence, I started using a Clotrimazole cream. After 6 days of application, the skin has turned brownish/brownish yellow in a few spots within the affected area and is coming off eventually. Is this a natural consequence to the medication? The rash is red however and has distinct boundaries. I am a male teenager.
Looks like you got a fungal infection (ringworm, jock itch or genital rash due to STD if you are sexually active). You can apply hydrocortisone cream locally for relieve & take a course of oral anti-fungals (fluconazole) for relieve. The symptoms should go away. However if it does not go you may have to get skin biopsy or few blood works done to rule out STI. Stay away from multiple partners, always use barrier methods to stay protected from STI. Take antihistamines, one so when required for relieve.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
