What Causes White Skin In Between The Buttocks Of An Elderly Person?

My mother is wheelchair bound and in the bed often. Although I reposition her constantly and change her diaper frequently, it appears that she has white skin in between her buttocks that is peeling every time I wash/wipe her. A small area of white skin was peeling and a pink mark appeared. The white skin is soft, and I m not sure if this is due to incontinence or what. I ordered an antifungal cream to see if that helps, but in the mean time I m using nystatin. What do u believe the issue is?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms of your mother seem to be related to a fungal infection.

I suggest using an an antifungal cream for local application such as Miconazole cream.

I also suggest using an anti fungal medication such as Diflucan 150 mg for three days.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
