Whiteheads and small white bumps on penis are usually harmless and common.
White spots on penis may result from various reasons such as pimples caused by
acne, pearly penile papules, fordyce's spots, sexually transmitted diseases like genital warts,
genital herpes etc. Whiteheads may develop when pore of skin becomes block with sebum, sweat, dead skin or debris and comes in contact with bacteria that causes inflammation. Antibacterial cream can be applied for removing them.
Pearly penile papules are whitish fleshy bumps usually develops near head and shaft of penis. Exact etiology is unknown. Fordyce's spots are yellow-white spots that usually develop on the shaft of penis. They are oil glands having no hair follicles. Genital warts are flesh-white bumps that appear on head or shaft of penis caused by sexually transmitted disease when come in contact with
human papilloma virus.
Antiviral cream is the treatment of choice.
Genital herpes are grey-white bumps that grow on or around the penis caused by STD when come in contact with
herpes simplex virus. Antiviral cream can be used for herpes simplex. Treatment depends on causes. Diagnosis can be done by physical examinations and some investigations like CBC, urine R/M/E & C/S, urethral swab for C/S,
biopsy from skin lesion etc.
