What Causes Wounds At The Incision Site After Getting Circumcised For Phimosis?

Hello Doctor, I m a 22 year old male who was circumcised 2 weeks back for phimosis. I was given the following medication for 5 days: Tab ofloxacin, tab combiflame, tab ranitidine, tab chymoral along with a small tube of mupirocin ointment. The doctor told me there would be no need to remove the stitches as they are the dissolvable ones. The exertions do not hurt anymore as well so I m starting to feel better. However I have the following queries: 1. There was formation of wounds along the stitches. Is that normal? They keep falling off periodically but a few still remain. 2. The area underneath the penis head(the place where the frenulum is) tends to become soft and pussy after I take a bath. Should I apply the ointment directly to that area? 3. I still feel slight discomfort when cloth touches the head. How much longer can I expect to feel this? Do let me know if you require any pictures to better understand. Thank you, Abhishek

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, I really appreciate your concern about the delicate matter. As a physician I would like to answer all your questions one by one

Q.1 : The stitches used are Catgut stitches which will fall off gradually one by one. Also, the wound below them would close eventually but I advise you to keep it clean, take and apply your medicines and keep looking for any signs of infection. Everything will be alright.

Q.2 : You can apply the ointment to the area of frenulum after taking bath, but make sure that the area is dried well and make sure that it is not kept wet all the time.

Q.3As your penis was uncircumcised for 20 years, your Glans or head of Penis was covered in skin and was and will be sensitive for touch to normal touch of clothes. Give it sometime and the sensation will go away as the wounds of circumcision heals you will feel better.

I hope I have answered your questions correctly and I wish you a speedy recovery. Feel free to contact for any further questions. Have a nice day.

Regards,
Dr.Abhijeet
