What Causes Wrist Pain While On AKT3 Treatment?

Hi, my mother is taking akt4 since 2 months after diagnosis of critical pneumonia even she is very better now reflect in recent x-ray but since last 3 days she has started taken AKT3 as per our doctor s prescription. Now since last 2 days she is suffering from severe pain in her right wrist and whole palm and fingers joints, also very much lack of appetite and frequent vomitings( 1 or 2 daily), specially from last few days. Please suggest what can be done to cure her as my doctor is out station and not taking calls. Kind of urgent, as I know joint pain and lack of appetite is common side effect of these medicines but this pain in wrist and whole palm joints is severe even she unable to move wrist, please help by suggesting some way forward.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You are right. These effects may be caused by drugs. While most of the anti TB drugs can cause anorexia and vomiting (hepatitis) and needs checking up live function tests. Similarly one side effect of one Of the drug (pyrazinamide) is increased uric acid hence causing the wrist pain. So I suggest you should contact your Dr and check your liver function tests and uric acid level.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
