What Causes Xanthelasma?

Hi, can I please have your opinions on xantelasma? Apart from high cholesterol (not my case as mine is within limits for the past 5 years) what else is the cause of this xantelasma? I had them surgically removed and within 6 months started to show up again. The ones I had removed were about 1.5 cm size, located on the inside corner of the eye lids. Now started to show up again almost in the same place and as a bonus started to show up under the eyes too! Please help with any advice! I am a 36 years old female, smoker and in general good health. Also in the last year I started having joints pain, feet and hands, swallow especially on cold rainy weather. For the last 4 months 2 of my fingers in my right hand got very swollen can t bend them and won t go back to normal. My feet also get swallow sometimes during the night but gradually go back to normal during daytime. Any help, ideas, advice much appreciated! Tks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Apart from hyperlipidemia, genetic causes, diet drugs [gluco-corticoids, estrogens, anabolic steroids, anti-hypertensive drugs etc], alcohol in excess, some diseases, hypothyroidism or uncontrolled diabetes are also causes among others. Take fruits and salads more, drink water 7-8 glasses a day, antioxidants like amla, aloe vera and basil, take multi vitamins. Join 'Art of Living', online OMBW, as this can reduce stress and toxins can decrease root cause of all diseases. This can help avoid recurrence. Other treatments are as you are already undergoing, surgery, cryo, laser etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
