Hi, from past 2 days I am having yellow discharge in my left ear. My doctor gave ciplox antibiotic ear drops, but it s not working, so another doc asked me to use cepodem 200 mg, tonight I have stopped ciplox ear drops and started cepodem 200 mg tab, but I have my own doubts , though I have taken the tablet tonight, can anybody help me, how long will this yellow discharge from my ear last, I don t have pain in my ear, but due to some inner infection I am having hearing loss. Please reply for my further course of action

Hi,

Both your doctors are correct. Most likely, you are suffering from an ear infection. Yellow discharge or purulent discharge most often point to a bacterial infection, for which antibiotics are the mainstay of treatment.

It would be ideal if you used the Ciplox ear drops as prescribed by your doctor for 5 or 7 days. Simultaneously you can take oral medication Cepodem.

Ear drops are topical applications and when coupled with oral antibiotics, the results are expedited. Do not let water get into your ears while washing your face or taking a shower.

Also with oral antibiotics, it would be advisable to take a course of probiotics like Vizylac/lactobacilli to protect against the side effects of antibiotics like stomach upsets, nausea etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
