I have a student in my class that has had major yellow thick purulent ear discharge for 5 of the six days we have been at school. The student is on a course of antibiotic treatment for chronic ear infections and had not displayed any pain or fever. Today the drainage leaked out of the students ear and onto a table. We also use community headphones on the computers. Is having a student in class with this discharge a health risk for other students?
Hi, thanks for the query. Your student clinical history is suggestive of chronic suppurative otitis media. Actually students spread infection from one to other more easily because they play with each other & proper hygiene is not maintain. Don'nt share head phone , infection can spread from infected ear to other normal ear. Yes , student in class with this discharge is a health risk for other students . Ask student Keep ear dry (don't put any ear drop) ,don’t allow water go inside while bath. Ask him to consult ENT doctor to get relief earlier. Hope this information helpful to you, take care and have a nice day. Regards.
